Boursorama Vie at a Glance: A Solid Contract Within a Complete Banking Ecosystem

Boursorama Vie is the flagship assurance vie (life insurance investment) contract of Boursorama Banque (a Societe Generale subsidiary), underwritten by Generali Vie. Since its launch, it has established itself as one of France's most popular online contracts, notably thanks to Boursorama's complete ecosystem that brings together everyday banking, stock trading, mortgages, and savings in a single interface.

But popularity does not necessarily mean excellence. With increasingly aggressive competition (Linxea Spirit 2, Lucya Cardif), does Boursorama Vie still hold its advantages in 2026? Our full review takes stock.

Boursorama Vie Fees: Competitive but Not the Lowest

Entry Fees: Excellent

Boursorama Vie charges 0% in entry fees, whether on the initial contribution or subsequent ones. This has become standard for online contracts, but it is worth noting that many traditional banks still charge 1 to 3% on each contribution. On 100,000 EUR contributed, this represents an immediate saving of 1,000 to 3,000 EUR compared to a traditional bank contract.

Management Fees: The Relative Weak Point

This is where the issue lies. Boursorama Vie charges 0.75% per year on both the fonds euros and unit-linked funds. This rate is fair relative to the overall market, but it is noticeably higher than the best online contracts:

Comparison of annual management fees
ContractFonds euros management feesUnit-linked management fees
Linxea Spirit 2 (Spirica)0.50%0.50%
Lucya Cardif (BNP Cardif)0.50%0.50%
Boursorama Vie (Generali)0.75%0.75%
Linxea Avenir 2 (Suravenir)0.60%0.60%
Evolution Vie (Abeille)0.60%0.60%

The 0.25% per year gap with Linxea Spirit 2 may seem negligible, but over the long term, the impact is significant. On a capital of 50,000 EUR invested in unit-linked funds for 20 years with a gross return of 7%, the fee difference represents approximately 3,500 EUR in lost gains.

Fee impact over 20 years

Initial capital: 50,000 EUR in unit-linked funds, gross return 7% / year.

  • With 0.50% fees (Linxea Spirit 2): approximately 167,000 EUR net
  • With 0.75% fees (Boursorama Vie): approximately 163,500 EUR net
  • Gap: ~3,500 EUR in favor of the lower-fee contract

Switching Fees: Free

Good news: online switches are free and unlimited, which is the standard for the best online contracts.

The Fonds Euros: Eurossima and Euro Exclusif

Boursorama Vie provides access to two fonds euros managed by Generali, but their performances diverge significantly.

Eurossima: A Disappointing Return

The Eurossima fonds euros is Generali's legacy guaranteed fund, accessible without any unit-linked investment requirement. Its 2024 return was approximately 2.00% net of management fees -- a disappointing level compared to the competition. This fund has accumulated years of underperformance and regularly sits at the bottom of online fonds euros rankings.

The explanation is structural: Eurossima is a very large fund (tens of billions of euros in assets), which limits Generali's ability to rapidly renew its bond portfolio. The inertia is considerable.

Euro Exclusif: A More Performant Alternative, with Conditions

The Euro Exclusif fund posts a significantly more attractive return of approximately 3.10% net in 2024. But this rate is conditional: you must invest at least 50% of your balance in unit-linked funds to benefit from it. For a conservative investor who wishes to remain primarily in the fonds euros, this constraint is penalizing.

Returns net of management fees, before social charges
Fonds euros2024 ReturnConditions
Eurossima~2.00%No unit-linked requirement
Euro Exclusif~3.10%50% minimum in unit-linked funds
Fonds euros Spirica (Spirit 2)~3.13%No major requirement
Fonds euros Cardif (Lucya)~3.00%No major requirement

Watch out for the Eurossima fund

If you invest primarily in the fonds euros without wanting unit-linked funds, the Eurossima return (~2.00%) is significantly lower than the best fonds euros on the market. Consider a contract like Linxea Spirit 2 (Spirica fonds euros at 3.13%) for the secure portion of your savings.

Unit-Linked Fund Range: Decent but Improvable

Boursorama Vie offers approximately 470 funds in unit-linked options. This is a respectable range that covers the main asset classes:

  • Traditional OPCVM: French equity funds, European, global, emerging markets, bond funds, diversified funds
  • SCPI and SCI: about fifteen real estate vehicles (Corum Origin, Epargne Pierre, Primovie, etc.)
  • ETFs: approximately 30 trackers, primarily from the Amundi / Lyxor range

The Weak Point: ETFs

This is arguably Boursorama Vie's most notable gap. With only about thirty ETFs, the contract is significantly behind Linxea Spirit 2 (80+ ETFs) or Lucya Cardif (50+ ETFs). For an investor who wants to build a 100% ETF portfolio at low cost, this limitation is problematic.

The available ETFs do cover the major indices (MSCI World, S&P 500, CAC 40, Stoxx 600, Emerging Markets), allowing you to build a basic diversified allocation. But investors seeking more granular exposure (sector-specific, thematic, small caps) will need to look at another contract.

SCPI: A Decent Selection

With about fifteen SCPI and SCI, Boursorama Vie allows you to include real estate in your allocation. The selection includes recognized names like Corum Origin, Epargne Pierre, and Primovie. However, as with most contracts, SCPI rental income is distributed at 85% (Generali retains 15% of the rental income).

Managed Investing: 4 Accessible Profiles

Boursorama Vie offers managed investing in 4 profiles:

  • Conservative: allocation primarily in bonds and fonds euros
  • Balanced: 50/50 mix between secure and dynamic assets
  • Dynamic: majority in equities
  • Aggressive: near-100% in equities and higher-risk assets

Managed investing is handled by Boursorama's fund management team, with allocations reviewed periodically. The wrapper fees (0.75%) are maintained, on top of the internal fees of the selected OPCVM (generally 1 to 2% per year). In total, an investor in managed mode will bear approximately 2 to 2.75% in annual fees, which is high compared to robo-advisors like Yomoni (1.60% all-in with ETFs).

Managed investing: watch out for cumulative fees

In traditional managed investing, the wrapper fees (0.75%) + underlying OPCVM fees (1 to 2%) add up. The total cost can exceed 2.50% per year, which significantly erodes net performance. Prefer self-directed management with ETFs if you are comfortable managing your own allocation, or an all-ETF robo-advisor like Yomoni if you want to delegate.

The Boursorama Ecosystem: The True Differentiating Advantage

The main advantage of Boursorama Vie is not found in its fees or fund range. It lies in Boursorama's complete banking ecosystem. If you are a Boursorama customer, you manage everything from a single interface:

  • Your current account (free card, no fees)
  • Your PEA and brokerage account (compte-titres)
  • Your assurance vie Boursorama Vie
  • Your mortgage if applicable
  • Your PER (Matla, underwritten by Oradea Vie)

This centralization greatly simplifies day-to-day wealth management. Transfers between current account and assurance vie are instant, overall portfolio tracking is seamless, and the mobile app is one of the most polished on the market.

The Interface and Mobile App

Boursorama's web interface and mobile app are unanimously praised for their usability. Sign-up is 100% online, switches are done in a few clicks, and the dashboard provides a clear view of all your assets. This is a real advantage for investors who value simplicity and ease of use.

Who Is It Best Suited For?

Boursorama Vie is ideal for:

  • Boursorama customers who want to centralize everything in a single ecosystem
  • Beginners who prioritize simplicity of the interface
  • Investors with a mixed allocation (50% Euro Exclusif fonds euros + 50% unit-linked funds) to benefit from the best return
  • Those looking for a low minimum contribution (300 EUR)

Boursorama Vie is not optimal for:

  • ETF investors: the range is too limited (prefer Linxea Spirit 2)
  • 100% fonds euros investors: Eurossima is disappointing (prefer a contract with a better-performing fonds euros)
  • Fee-conscious investors: 0.75% unit-linked management fees are higher than the direct competition

Practical case: Sophie, 35 years old, Boursorama customer

Sophie is a Boursorama customer for her current account and PEA. She opens Boursorama Vie with 10,000 EUR and sets up 200 EUR / month in regular contributions.

Chosen allocation: 50% Euro Exclusif (to capture the 3.10% return), 30% MSCI World ETF, 20% SCPI Epargne Pierre.

Advantage: everything is managed from the same app. Drawback: she pays 0.75% in unit-linked fees instead of 0.50% at Linxea. Over 20 years, the gap will represent several thousand euros, but Sophie values the day-to-day convenience.

The picture is clear: Boursorama Vie loses on fees and fund range, but wins decisively on the banking ecosystem and user experience. It is a compromise contract, not a maximum optimization contract.

Our Verdict: 7.5 / 10

Boursorama Vie is a good online assurance vie contract, solid and reliable, but it is no longer the best on purely financial criteria. Its unit-linked management fees (0.75%) are higher than the direct competition, its Eurossima fonds euros is disappointing, and its ETF range deserves enrichment.

On the other hand, the Boursorama ecosystem is a real and tangible daily advantage. If you are already a Boursorama customer or are considering becoming one, Boursorama Vie is a relevant choice, especially when paired with a second, more competitive contract (Linxea Spirit 2 for example) to optimize fees and diversification.

Strengths:

  • 0% entry fees
  • Complete and integrated banking ecosystem
  • Superior interface and mobile app
  • Low minimum contribution (300 EUR)
  • Performant Euro Exclusif fonds euros (with 50% unit-linked condition)

Weaknesses:

  • Unit-linked management fees of 0.75% (vs 0.50% at the best competitors)
  • Disappointing Eurossima fonds euros (~2.00% in 2024)
  • Limited ETF range (~30 trackers)
  • Expensive managed investing (additional OPCVM fees on top)

Our advice

Open Boursorama Vie for the convenience if you are a Boursorama customer, but do not put all your eggs in one basket. Complement it with a 0.50%-fee contract like Linxea Spirit 2 or Lucya Cardif for the unit-linked and ETF portion of your portfolio.
